The Mommypotamus

Heather Dessinger

Mommypotamus, written by Heather Dessinger, is a blog about real food, natural parenting, and making healthier lifestyle choices at home.

Heather is a wife and mother to two adorable children, both born at home in water. She’ll talk your ear off about butter, farm fresh eggs and the dangers of genetically modified foods anytime. . . even while in labor!

Her passion for food is no surprise, really. At twenty-four Heather was diagnosed with a serious auto-immune disorder and told she wasn’t capable of carrying a baby to term. Heartbroken, she started searching for answers. What she learned about stealth GMO’s, factory-farmed meat and other stomach wrenching realities made her angry. She determined to make a change for her family and began sourcing pastured meats, raw cheese and organic produce. About a year after she changed her diet, and with the help of a modified form of acupuncture, Heather conceived and carried her daughter not just to full-term, but to the very last day of the 42nd week!

Daddypotamus (Heather’s husband) continued to struggle with ADD symptoms, mood swings, and weight gain after living on a partial real food diet for several years, so the family transitioned again to the GAPS protocol in the Spring of 2011.

Heather teaches locally on infant/toddler nutrition and loves talking with other moms interested in how to make life-changing nutrional changes for the health of their families.
